This tenor banjo is in very good condition overall for its age. It has general signs of player use and wear such as: Scratches on back and sides of body, dings and scratches on the headstock, crackle on finish, discoloration on armrest, tarnish on resonator and other general wear from age. It has been set up professionally in store and does have new strings, a new bridge, head, and tailpiece installed. A sturdy vintage case is included that has rips and scratches but seems to be period correct and possibly original, but there is no way to know for sure.
This is not a one piece flange banjo. Most resonators by Gibson have a poplar interior with wood veneer on the outside. This one appears to have been made with mahogany as can be seen by looking at the interior pictures. There is a surface crack, that does not appear to go all the way through, in the rim near the neck joint(see pictures). This particular banjo has a thin tension hoop and a 3/4 inch shell. It has a two piece rather than a one piece armrest.
This instrument is set up to be a player and it achieves that goal very well. It has a full sound and good projection.
